Research – tax refund spending plans

March 11th, 2010 admin

If you didn’t see it last week, do check out some brand new information about consumers and how they plan to file their return and spend (some of) their tax refund this year.  Conducted in early February 2010 in partnership with BIGresearch , this NRF consumer survey found that:  61% of US taxpayers expected to file their taxes by the end of February (no procrastinating when there’s money on the table?). 54.4% of US taxpayers will file their taxes online this year, up from 50% last year….

Research – Online Easter Shoppers Ready to Spend
I think I can safely say I’m seeing a trend – in the year since we started looking at how consumers spend for various holidays, online shoppers tend to be a lucrative group. Admittedly one segment of the overall population, it appears that online shoppers often outspend (sometimes even handily) consumers who don’t shop online for these occasions....
Research – Online Mother’s Day Shoppers Plan to Indulge Mom
Online Mother’s Day shoppers clearly think Mom (and grandmothers and sisters, among others) rule. According to the latest  NRF / Shop.org consumer survey conducted by BIGresearch  earlier this month, one in five consumers celebrating Mother’s Day this year will buy some portion of their gifts for the occasion online. As I mused recently when...
Research: Online Father’s Day Shoppers Plan to Outspend Others
Long-awaited summer is almost here – and with it, time to honor the fathers and father figures in our lives on Sunday, June 21. Three-quarters of US consumers surveyed in May by  BIGresearch plan to celebrate the holiday this year and – great news for our industry – fully 20% of those plan to do some portion of their Father’s Day shopping...
Valentine’s Day — Online Shoppers Look Promising
With all eyes trained on the quarter in progress and the full year ahead, the first of the new year’s bigger shopping holidays – Valentine’s Day – is a scant two weeks away. While many consumers are still recovering from recent Holiday expenditures, this occasion’s appeal to love and friendship is proving hard for consumers ignore entirely...
Free ChannelAdvisor white paper – online shopper’s behavior
Based on feedback we received at our Catalyst conferences where we have an online consumer panel that retailers love, we started doing a bi-annual survey of consumer online buying behavior.  The 2H09 version is out now.   This information is something I think every online retailer, regardless of size should read and understand as you make your...
Research: Which big dollar purchases consumers are delaying
In an ongoing effort to understand how consumers continue to adapt to the recession, we recently asked BIGresearch to explore with consumers what “big ticket” purchases they have either put off – or may never make at all. While tighter purse strings are a given these days, the results illustrate how priorities differ across consumer segments....
New Research — Social Media User Profiles
Since it seems everyone is looking for more detailed (and up to date) insight into the social media user, I was happy to come across a new study released last week by our sister organization, the Retail Advertising and Marketing Association (RAMA) . This consumer study was conducted by NRF partner BIGresearch as part of its Simultaneous Media Usage®...
Research: Online BTS Shoppers Plan to Spend 44% More Than Offline-Only Shoppers
Every July, I am reminded how busy this time of year is for retailers – it’s the season of July sales, planning for the upcoming holiday season, launching fall merchandise, and, in tandem with the last, kicking off back to school.  The heat outside appears to be driving many US consumers into well air-conditioned malls, which might help...
Holiday ’09: Shipping Deadlines Loom this Friday
December 18 is the magic date for many online consumers this year — I just hope they know it. After that day, almost two thirds of retailers we surveyed will no longer guarantee that customers’ online purchases using standard shipping will actually arrive before December 25. According to the Shop.org eHoliday ’09 Study , conducted in partnership...
Research: Retailers overall see positive YOY Q1 growth
The Q1 quarterly online sales flash survey results are in – and encouraging they are. Conducted in partnership with Forrester Research , we ask** retailers every quarter or so how their gross online sales grew for the previous quarter compared to the same period a year earlier. Shop.org Members can download the data summary and results overview...
